IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
Sledding is a very popular kind of sport in winter and it’s fun. Naturally each kind of sport is also a source of danger. We have some important recommendations to make a contribution to your security:
appropriate equipment
- Sturdy boots or walking boots for a safe ascent a/o descent and sled shoes with spikes for precise braking on hard snow and icy tracks
- warm gloves with maximum freedom of movement
- helmet for maximum safety (it’s to be recommended)
- bicycle lock as precaution against theft
- When sledging at night, do not forget your torch on non-lit runs!
Correct behaviour on the track
Attention! Up and down to the same toboggan? In that case we suggest you carry the sledge to prevent dangerous situations!
- be careful all the time
- if possible, walk up to the side of the run and carry sled, or walk along the inside bend!
- Never stop on blind bends!
- Do not underestimate speed of descent!
- Break properly and in time in order to arrive at the bottom of the track safely!
- you can go in a comfortable sitting position (standard position) or lying position (good for the stomach muscles)
- Do never go by lying with the head in front! Do not danger yourself and others!
- Warn the other persons before overtaking!
- Breaking in front of curves, breaking at finish by pressing the feet to the ground; lift up the sledge in front for fast breaking
- Left curve and right curve:
Steering with your weight placed into the wanted direction, in addition pulling of the steering rope on lifted angle of the inside. Like that you lift up the inside runner. With your foot (ankle bone) put pressure on the outside runner. The sledge moves into desired direction.
- sleds are not suitable for infants; but they can go without any difficulties together with a adult on one sled
- Sledding at owner’s risk!
Correct maintenance of sled:
- do never pull the sled on tarmac
- store in a cool, dry place
- store lying down or standing up
- after using sled dry runners straight away in order to prevent rust from setting in!
- Clean the runners with wax remover, wax and brush the structure of the runners!
- Wax the runners after the winter before putting them away for storage!
- when sled does not seem to be sliding properly, get an expert to look at it
